This is a book for aircraft and airline enthusiasts. We take a look at Palma de Mallorca Airport in the 1970s, with detailed descriptions of the airlines that flew holiday flights during that time period. The book has 117 pages packed with color images of airlines that flew BAC One-Elevens, Boeing 707s, 727s, 737s, Caravelles, Convair 880s and 990s, Douglas DC-8s, DC-9s and DC-10s and the famous Lockheed TriStars of Court Line and LTU. Did you know Condor, KLM, and SABENA used to fly Boeing 747s to Palma in the mid 1970s?The only Airbus type included is the A300, which was beginning to appear at Palma at that time.Sixty-six airlines are described in detail, including a historical summary and their operation in Palma. Detailed fleet listings are also shown for the 1970 to 1979 time period, and 177 color images of airlines are included. Several are extremely rare, such as Balair, Transavia Holland, and Pomair Ostend Douglas DC-6s that used to fly charters to Palma. Rare airlines such as InterSwede (which lasted only a few months), AviAction, which flew Fokker F.28 Fellowships into Palma, and Air Viking, which flew a Convair 880, are some of the examples included in this book.An arrivals log from August 11, 1973, is also presented for those who are interested in seeing what a summer Saturday at Palma was like back then. The airport was not just limited to European charter airlines; charter carriers from the USA were also present at Palma. Modern Air Transport used its Convair 990s from Berlin almost daily in 1973. Pan Am was also present with Boeing 727s from Germany. The United States Military Airlift Command (MAC) flights also flew into Palma with Braniff International, Capitol, Eastern Airlines, Saturn, Trans International and Overseas National Airways all present. There is an expanded section on Aeroamerica who took over the Berlin charters to Palma after the demise of Modern Air Transport. The authors were fortunate enough to preserve their Kodak slides from visits at Palma during the early 1970s. The results are shown in this book alond with other AirlinersGallery photographers have also kindly submitted their historical images for the book. Lastly Javier Rodrigues, Palma resident was gracious enough to include some rare black and whit images of the Palma Airport in the 1960s.We are confident that the aviation historian will find this book of interest as it captures the glory days of early charter flights into one of the world's most interesting airports.
