The Cisco GLC-LX-SM-RGD is a Small Form Factor Pluggable transceiver that introduces a dependable 1 Gigabit Ethernet fiber link to compatible Cisco switches and routers. Operating at 1310 nm and following the IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-LX specification, it carries data up to 10 km on single-mode fiber and up to 550 m on multimode fiber. This reach makes it a practical choice for connecting remote buildings, roadside cabinets, factory cells, or any location where copper cabling falls short.

Installation is straightforward. Slide the module into an open SFP slot while the equipment stays powered, attach an LC duplex cable, and the link becomes active within seconds. Because the unit is hot swappable, maintenance teams can replace or upgrade it without scheduling downtime.
